Attending watercolour classes helped Lauren to build the confidence to go back to full time education; teacher training in art & design.

I began attending the St. Philips church watercolour group back in 2013. I had been out of work for some years whilst bringing up my children, so I decided once they started school I would look around for some art courses/ groups to get me back into art – which I studied at college and university many years before.
I came across the watercolour group through the Angel Centre (on Chapel Street). I went along on a Wednesday afternoon (12.30-2.30pm) and was greeted by 2 of the group members who immediately put me at ease, they were very welcoming and enthusiastic (one of whom is now a very good friend!). All of the group members are very friendly and encouraging, and we have had many great sessions; sharing ideas, making suggestions, and learning some great tips on watercolour techniques from the amazing tutor Frank, who has a real passion for watercolour and art.

Attending the watercolour group once a week was very manageable for me and I always looked forward to going. It gave me the confidence I needed at that point in my life and I am so glad I discovered this wonderful group.
Recently I have not been able to attend the watercolour group as I have now gone on to begin my studies towards a PGCE (teacher training) in Art & Design.
I would highly recommend the watercolour group at St. Philips church to anyone, as it really does cater for all levels of ability and for any age. Joining the group has truly boosted my confidence/ self-belief, and I have made some special friends.
