Free Computer Classes – Suitable for beginners to intermediate level, covering basic skills, using the internet, excel/spreadsheets, Access/database, and PowerPoint/presentation graphics. We’ve got lots of stuff happening in the next few weeks and months; guitar lessons and IT classes on the Islington Estate, arts workshops and viking combat training at Sacred Trinity, painting and photography at St Phils and pottery and IT drop ins at the URC. We’re also excited to be hosting an exhibition in partnership with Salford Museum and Art Gallery of work by local artist Kate Herberts, and an installation by Antonia Low, as part of the Seven Sites project happening across Manchester and Salford.

Over 100 people responded to our customer survey during the summer, telling us what kinds of activities they’d like to get involved in. Names were entered into a hat, but our 1st draw proved unsuccessful as we were unable to contact the people whose names were drawn.

Not so this time. Norma was over the moon and said she can’t wait to spend it.

Here’s some info of our activities for the rest of 2011;

We have a couple of heritage themed activities running at the moment, and painting, drumming and dance sessions too, plus more music and dance activities planned for the new year – watch this space!

Wednesdays;
Arts Club – Wednesdays 12.30 – 3pm @ St Phil’s Church, Wilton Place, Salford, M3 6FR.
Our arts club is up and running, and offers a warm welcome and friendly environment to take part in the following;
• Water Colour Painting – FREE ADMISSION - improve your painting skills – take part in our painting class and benefit from the tuition of one of the artists based at the church. Starts 12.30 – 2.30pm.
• Photography – FREE ADMISSION - Learn how to take better photos, share on the internet, and compare your new photos with old photographs of Salford to see how the area has changed over the years. For people of all ages and abilities. Starts 1 – 3pm.

Drumming and Dance Tuition – Manchester School of Samba – – MSS focus on Brazilian Carnival Art forms, and teach rhythms & dances from different parts of Brazil at all levels from beginners to advanced and are open to all people. Come and experience an introduction to percussion and dance at Sacred Trinity Church, Chapel St, Salford, M3 5DW, Wednesdays 7 – 9.30pm. Thursdays;
Streets Museum. A – Z of Lost Salford Streets – FREE ADMISSION - An exhibition documenting people’s memories of Salford Streets demolished on the 1950’s and 60’s, is open at Chapel Gallery Thursdays 12 -2pm for the rest of 2011. Meet the Re-tracing Salford Team and bring your photos and stories to the gallery, every Thursday 12-2pm, no booking required. Chapel Gallery, Lamb Court Salford M3 6AF – situated opposite Salford Central Station, Chapel St.

The first launch was for an exhibition called ‘A River Runs Through’, which consists of work created by local artists Paul Hamilton and Maureen Neill with pupils from 9 local schools, who each interpreted the theme taking inspiration from The River Irwell and from other countries they were studying as part of their school curriculum work. The work was funded by Irwell Education Improvement Partnership.
St Philips school came and sang some songs to open the exhibition, and then took part in a quiz we had arranged for them.
The exhibition can be viewed at Chapel Gallery, Chapel St and Hope United Reformed Church, Lamb Court, M3 6AF, 11-2pm on any Thursday in October.

Later on that day, we launched the Streets Museum exhibition, which shows people’s memories and photographs of Salford Streets that were demolished in the 1950′s and 60′s. Tha Chapel St Choir came and sang a couple of songs and then we all had a good natter.

The streets Museum exhibition can also be viewed 12 – 2pm on any Thursday for the next 6 months at Chapel Gallery, Lamb Court M3 6AF. We hope to secure some funding to create new work for the exhibition over the coming months.
